Read the fields inside a GS1 code.
Decode supported GS1 element strings and Digital Links into product identifiers, lots, serial numbers, and dates. Paste the payload below or scan a label image.
Use a GS1 Digital Link URL or an element string with its application identifiers and separators intact. You can also scan with a supported camera or upload a clear label image.
Select Analyze
Review the decoded fields rather than treating the entire value as a single stock number. The same GTIN may appear on multiple lots or serialised items.
Check the source and context
Compare the result with the printed label and your records. Product-passport and recall lookups need published online data; decoding a GS1 identifier alone does not certify a product or confirm compliance.
In the example above, 01 identifies the GTIN, 10 the lot or batch, 17 the expiry date in YYMMDD form, and 21 the serial number. These fields describe different levels of identity; do not discard the lot or serial if traceability needs them.
Element strings and Digital Links
An element string places application identifiers beside their values. A GS1 Digital Link expresses identifiers in a web address, such as a path containing /01/ followed by a GTIN. Copying a raw scanner payload without its field separators can make variable-length values ambiguous.
A decoder is not a verifier
ScanAtlas recognizes supported fields. It does not allocate a GTIN, certify a barcode’s print quality, or guarantee that a resolver publishes a Digital Product Passport. Follow GS1 specifications and the requirements of the system receiving your data.
Before you export
Questions about gs1 decoder.
What fields can it extract?
Supported fields include GTIN, SSCC, lot, serial, production and expiry dates, quantities, and selected location and logistics identifiers when they are present in the payload. Unsupported or incomplete input may not decode fully.
Why is a field missing or merged into another?
Variable-length fields need a separator when followed by another field. Copy the original payload, preserve separators, or use the human-readable parenthesized form if you have it. Check the result against the label.
Does it check official recalls?
The web scanner can request supplemental official-source recall matches for supported product identifiers. A missing match does not establish safety; coverage, source availability, and identifier detail are limited.
